Teaching to Build Faith and Faithfulness: Ten Principles for Teachers and Parents

Gospel teaching that changes hearts and invites action is the goal of all teachers and parents, but ultimately, only the Spirit can teach in life-changing ways. Our role as parents and teachers is really to engage learners in order to facilitate the teaching of the Spirit. Most traditional teaching situations utilize a teacher-centered approach where little is required of the learner and results in a minimal change of heart. Teaching to Build Faith and Faithfulness offers ten strategies that focus on learner-centered instruction, with stories and examples to illustrate the principles. The ideas will encourage parents and teachers to think of themselves as “guides” to aid and assist the influence of the Spirit and suggests practical ways to till the ground of learning, plant and nurture seeds of faith, direct learners to dependable places to find their own answers to questions, and applaud every worthy effort to grow.
