At seventee, Lysandra Witnessed The Brutal Murder Of Her Family And Lost Her Sight. Ten Years Later, She Is A Master Healer And Clairvoyant. Lysandra Encounters Father Renan, Who Explains That The Two Of Them Are Chosen To Install The Rightful Queen Of Aghamore On The Throne. If They Fail, The Kingdom Will Be Plunged Into A Millennium Of Darkness And Tyranny. The Kingdom Of Aghamore Is Without A King And Poised On The Brink Of Civil War. Two Women, Both Possessed Of Magical Abilities, Go In Search Of A Child Prophesied To Be Aghamore's Next Leader. Aurya, A Powerful Sorceress Of Black Magic, Seeks To Destroy The Child So Her Consort, Giraldus, Can Become The Next High King. Lysandra, A Blind Recluse, Is Moved By Visions To Find The Child Before The Kingdom Is Plunged Into Darkness. Both Women Have Powerful Allies. Aurya Commands An Army Through Giraldus, And Lysandra Is Assisted By Her Pet Wolf, A Mysterious Priest, And The Powers Of Light. To Achieve Their Goal, Both Women Scramble To Decipher The Ancient Scroll Of Tambryn In An Adventurous Race Across The Kingdom. Although The Length Of This Book Might Deter Some Teen Readers, The Action Is Well Paced And Overcomes The Sometimes Unimaginative Plot. There Is, However, A Tendency Toward The Melodramatic, And The Pining Of Lysandra And Father Renan For Each Other Can Be Both Artificial And Wearisome. Much More Intriguing Is The Villainess, Aurya, Whose Misdemeanors At Least Provide Relief From Lysandra's Staid Goodness. Obviously The First In A Series, Neason's Novel Leaves Many Unanswered Questions That Might Be Resolved In Subsequent Books.
